This week’s top five web resources

Shell Live Wire
A resource and community for young entrepreneurs (young being 16-30). Lots of online tools including testing your business idea, Finance Action Planner and more.

WidgetBox
A great resource for a variety of widgets you can use on your website, in your blog etc. You can even convert your own blog into a blidget (blog widget) to put on any of your or others’ web pages.

HASTAC
is an entirely voluntary network of leading researchers and nonprofit research institutions worldwide. HASTAC’s mission is to promote expansive models for thinking, teaching, and research. Includes a Ning community. Lots of interesting network events. Somewhat narrowminded, however, as it says “A consortium of humanists, artists, scientists, social scientists, and engineers from universities across the country” – “country” being the US of course. When will Americans realise that the rest of the world sometimes has something to offer? And that the Internet transcends physical boundaries? I got an invitation to join this network. Perhaps they didn’t realise I was “European”.

E-Learning Reloaded: Top 50 Web 2.0 Tools for Info Junkies, Researchers & Students
An interesting list from OEdB which I noted and then lost before it got as far as this blog -s till, better late than never!  A really useful list of Web 2.0 applications and resources. I am preparing my own definitive guide to Web 2.0 resources – watch this space (though don’t hold your breath – there’s a lot to collate!)

WikiHow
On the list above, this is the last link. I’ve found myself directed to it a few times lately. I like the format that they use for all the articles: Steps, Tips, Warnings and Things You’ll Need.  Some of the articles have obviously been written (pretty well!) by youngsters – perhaps in a school lesson about writing to instruct.  Even the tongue in cheek ones are interesting. Create a home for your pet rock Again, rather American – and there are some things listed that I’d rather people DIDN’T learn how to do!
