E-learning extreme!

Where is the most extreme place you have taken part in e-learning either as student or tutor or developer?
A lecturer yesterday admitted to having logged on during a trip up Everest at 4000m.
I’m afraid the best I can come up with is a bar by the pool in Sicily…
During my years as an online tutor I have supported students from across the world, my last count was 198 different countries on every continent – and time zones – you can tell from my dark eyes sometimes – and not all at the same time!!!
However, some particular favourites, starting with a student (originally from N.Europe) studying an undergraduate degree whilst working in Nepal (highest altitude student), or the previous campus based student who has continued their studies online after braking their back in New Zealand (bravest student) and finally I had a student who lived on a Caribbean Island which was struck by a Hurricane, but flew to the mainland USA to submit their dissertation online from an Internet Cafe in Miami Airport before flying home to assess the damage to their property (most dedicated student).

Lecturers at Leicester University have been designing the e-learning elements of a maritime safety course which will have students on ships – apparently they mostly have broadband these days!

“My most exciting e-learning experience was taking part in a pilot course with a Canadian … [who] was doing research about the role of games to support learning and had set up this wonderful course in WebCT to demonstrate how games could be used. We worked in groups to produce our online courses about endangered species (ours was red kangaroos, I think) and each group made their courses live whilst she was presenting her findings to an e-learning conference.
