Time flies with butterflies

Two cards today. Very similar colours as I notice that three of the colour challenges have two of the same colours in…(calypso coral and pool party).

There’s a lot more to this first card than I normally do – with a few techniques. Heidi Swapp clock stamps (one of my long-time favourites) plus L’Aquarelle sentiment: butterflies punched out of paint swatch cards (I caught the skin of a finger in the punch – ouch!) and Distress Inked background with water dripped on for a touch of texture. Oh, and the background is a stencil from my very old stash (from Club Scrap).

AAA cards #88 Stencil

Inspired by the picture at Time Out Challenge 88 (clock, butterflies, centre below)

Colours from Watercooler Wednesday Penny’s Color Challenge

The second card is mostly stamping with L’Aquarelle, using watercolour pens.

butterfly mask

This is for the Hand-Stamped Sentiments Color Challenge #261 with smoky slate grey as well as coral and pool party.  The grey is a lot paler in real life than in the pic (it’s been an unhelpful day for taking pictures)

No time for a haiku as we’re playing board games now the kids are home for Easter….

Sleepy Bunny

I had to get this sweet Uniko stamp as it so reminded me of the cuddly toy my niece loved when she was younger. It was once even the subject of a Twitter hashtag when it was lost on a train… She’s 19 soon, but she’s getting this nostalgic card with SleepyBunny in her favourite colour, yellow. I hope she likes it!

This is entered into the Sketch Challenge at Just Add Ink   and Seize the Birthday’s Topping option of Two Patterned Papers.

The haiku:

Sleepybunny: now
Small and forgotten as you
Start new adventures.

A helicopter ride

This card is to accompany a helicopter ride voucher for a very special birthday. Every little boy’s dream I should think (and plenty of grown-ups’ too!)

It’s stamped with Up in the Air in black on white and then fussy cut and mounted with dimensionals over a “sky” blue background. Apologies for the dim picture – I had to take it in the evening.

This card is entered for The Male Room challenge of Black, White and one more colour – in this case, sky blue 🙂

Seize the sky, my friend
Take the adventure to heart
You’re surely worth it

Spring flowers

I decided to try a spring card. Painted six different Uniko flowers and of course the best one screwed up when I tried to trim it…  This is the next best. Got my eye on some Uniko stamps when they come back into stock. This is inspired by the sketch at CAS Colours and Sketches – a bit loosely interpreted because of my flower size.

pink spring

Entered in CAS Colours and Sketches for #216 Patricia’s sketch

and Uniko’s Spring / Easter challenge

Haiku:

Singing a pink song
Brightly like spring after rain
Blooming like flowers

Third bluebird

I think this really is the last of my bluebirds for now. This card arose from Kim’s sketch #281 at Freshly Made Sketches  Watercolours and L’Aquarelle stamps as before.

Another bluebird

There are a few blues in colour challenges at the moment, so bluebirds are still on my mind…

This is a birthday bluebird sitting in the pink blossoms. I’ve tried out a few new techniques for me – spattering the background, new L’Aquarelle stamps watercoloured and cut out and pieced together.

bluebird rose

These are as close as I could get with my watercolours to the colours at Just Add Ink 352

The haiku ofr this one

A bluebird trilling
joyful in the tree above.
Happiness floods me

Black and white boy

Here’s a card for a young boy. It’s based on a stamped and zentangled bookmark that is designed to be removed and used.

This one is for Cards in Envy’s challenge Black and White

and CAS-ual Fridays No Dies Allowed

Run and jump and play
Be strong and active and then…
Snuggle: read with me

Bon Anniversaire

For a friend who is a Francophile:

Entering in Fusion challenge Paris Rain – inspired by the image of course!

And a haiku based on our honeymoon experience many years ago…

Remember Paris?
Such rain, the Seine overflowed
Cosy honeymoon!

Up in the air

Balloons are the theme of my last couple of cards.  This one is in yellow, purple and white, with a charcoal grey sentiment. Watercolouring, stamping and hand cutting.  I was going to have two balloons on each card and a bigger yellow panel, but cutting it down to match the shape of the square card base and having two clouds to make up the Power of Three seemed to work better.

This one is entered in CAS Colours and Sketches #213.  I couldn’t put too much grey in it, as it would have looked rainy instead of a sunny adventure!

Also in CAS-ual Fridays Off The Edge challenge

and though balloons are unisex I think this one is more masculine so entering at Cards 4 Guyz CAS challenge #160

I did another version of this. In orange and yellow instead – trying to give it a gentler look. I think I prefer it with the purple and grey though.

Entering this one in Cards in Envy: Keep it simple

and Seize the Birthday: Anything Goes

My balloon flies off.
Watching it drift in the blue,
I wish I could too…

Cog in the machine

I love the idea of steampunk. Jules Verne, H G Wells, Dr Who, Warehouse 13, etc. So many interesting motifs for masculine cards: cogs, balloons, goggles, watches, top hats.  And a great theme for an escape game… Last time I went to a steampunk fair I came away with loads of steampunk themed charms to make cards – and have I used them? No!  Not sure why I haven’t been very inspired with cards.  Although I was pleased with this one.

Such a good idea for The Male Room to have a Steampunk challenge.  I started with card faintly patterned with clocks and added balloons, more clocks and cogs.  Can you see the ironic element of my picture? 😉

An unusual haiku this time:

The highwayman coat
Caught his eye but was too small 🙁
Incentive to slim…
