Skydiver birthday card

When people know you like making cards they sometimes try to give you a gift you’ll appreciate and they don’t quite “get it” – do you find that?  I am very grateful for the thought, but “toppers” are really not my scene – I prefer to make my own. Nevertheless, I really did like these butterflies – though I’m not sure where they came from as they were a gift. So thank you.

OK, so there’s a skydiver in the family, and something in flight seemed to be appropriate for the latest birthday.  Running with the on-trend watercolouring for the background (watercolour pencils here), I also got a bit creative on the computer with the text.

Never let your life
be limited by others.
Fly in your own way!

(Skydiver haiku 1)

Dalek Birthday card

For a geek Dr Who lover (not necessarily the same thing!) on a special birthday. The dalek is a stencil sold by Lakeland last year intended for cakes I think. Tried to make the bling reflect the design of a dalek…

Time goes by and still
I enjoy your good friendship:
sharing fun and likes.

Piano birthday card

A piano card for a piano-playing relative. Scanned sheet music and all other elements created from scratch.

PianoBirthday2015-09-13 16.00.22

CASEd from FubsyRuth on Splitcoast Stampers – hers was already a CASE! I think a few people have come up with this design, or similar,  independently…

My phone rings: it’s you:
your voice like sweet piano
music to my ears

Steampunk birthday card

Lots of birthdays coming up in September! This is a birthday card for a relative who loves anything steampunk. The cogs were created using a free downloaded image as a template, inked with ColorBox Cat’s Eye Queue metallic inks. The background is created with Heidi Swapp clocks stamps.

The wheels turn again,
another year faces me:
but love simply grows.

Pink Birthday

A very feminine birthday card!  With Autumn Leaves Elegant flourishes stamp – an oldie but goodie.

Your love of pink makes
me think what little girls are
made of: it’s not new.

Handmade flowers

I made the flowers from (bought) handmade paper. I love this paper, and wish I could remember where it came from to get more…

The design was inspired by a card by the late Margaret of Making Papercrafts. I was so sad to read that she has gone.

A haiku for this card:

Our best creations
must be ones we leave behind
to inspire others.

Printable e e cummings quote for Teen Girl cards!

I’m always looking for ideas for teenage girl cards as I have 5 teen nieces and a tween.

This is not a haiku, but a quote from e e cummings

e e cummings quote on being yourself

“To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting”  (e e cummings)

Birthday banners

A card I made for an aunt’s birthday. Because of her tastes it’s a bit more busy than I would normally make a card.

Birthday banners

I am liking working with birthday banner designs at the moment.

SUPPLIES: HOTP Home Grown papers (free with a magazine – it’s good discovering paper sets that way), Prima flowers

Green birthday

A colleague is very proud of his electric bike so I thought his birthday card should reflect his interest in electric vehicles.  The vehicle was designed and paper pieced from scratch by hand.
