The Cellar 10:40

It's cool down in the cellar; the dug out cave always stays the same temperature. I wish I could say the same about myself. Lately I seem to get angry way too quickly. Don't get me wrong, I like my job, most of the time. Bill is a great boss, taking me on without bar experience. Just another poor student desperate to make the extra cash to put food in her mouth. Yeah, I know, brings tears to your eyes, doesn't it?

Weird, at the time I thought I was so lucky. A job, just starting out at uni, and a new man in my life. I'd just met Art. Of course I didn't know about his 'we're still good friends' routine with Maz then. Almost three years on and I feel edgy; ready for a change.

Somewhere off in the corner a rustling sound makes me jump. I look around but the lighting isn't good down here. It's too loud for spiders, although I've seen some monster eight-leggers in the past. Could it be rats? God, I hope not! It would really put the crown on what is turning into a really entertaining night.

Nat's voice shakes me out of my maudlin thoughts, as she shouts down the stairs.

"Hate to hurry you, babe, but the animals are getting restless up here."

I quickly grab a small case and make my way up the stairs. I'll leave the rats where they are. I've got enough to deal with from the patrons up above, not least the black widow herself.
